Identification of bread wheat genotypes (Triticum aestivum L.) with tolerance to drought conditions at the central coast of Peru

Wheat is sown mostly in Peru, areas above 3000 m altitude, under rainfed conditions and frequent drought problems during the crop cycle. It a cereal used as staple food by families of small-scale farmers who are dedicated to their cultivation, which why it necessary develop varieties with tolerance. This investigation had objectives (1) determine yield potential wheat genotypes stress conditions, (2) susceptibility indices tolerance, (3) identify tolerant genotypes. Nine introduced from CIMMYT commercial variety “Centenario” flour (Triticum aestivum L.) were studied an environment complete irrigation life cycle another terminal or deficit applied boot phase (Z4.0). A Random Complete Blocks design was three repetitions. Agronomic characteristics, quality evaluations carried out following established protocols for each characteristic evaluated tolerance (STI), mean productivity (MP), geometric (GMP), index (TOL), (SSI), determined. The reduction grain varied 17.95 % 33.27 mainly due drought. SSI ranged 0.65 (G-3) 1.21 (G-6 y G-9), meanwhile TOL 1 316.8 3 142.68 (G-7). MP, STI GMP indexes allowed identification greatest 5 genotypes: G- 1, G-2, G-7, G-8 10. These results important developing new that adapt face climate change Andean region.
